The Government is pledging a million dollars to a trust set up to mark the 60th anniversary of the Queen's accession to the throne.

Prime Minister John Key says the charitable trust will focus on enriching communities in the Commonwealth by funding housing and water projects.

He says the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust was endorsed by the Commonwealth heads of Government last year.

Mr Key says Sir Don McKinnon has been appointed to promote the trust in New Zealand.
