Government working to improve cyber security

3:34 pm on 24 February 2012

Prime Minister John Key says the Government is working to improve its cyber security after computer hackers obtained copies of emails sent to Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully.

Mr Key says he has talked to Mr McCully about the security breach and reminded all ministers of the need for vigilance.

Mr McCully's emails were hacked after they were sent to his personal address in April last year, but the attack became public only last week.

Mr Key says Mr McCully's office was warned about the practice before it occurred and sent only limited, bland information to the minister.
