Cost of image project will be modest - DoC

The Department of Conservation says no decisions have been finalised on the cost of a project aimed at improving its image, but the costs will be "extremely modest".

Tenders for the work close on 21 August. DoC says it hopes to have the work underway by the end of September.

National Party conservation spokesperson, Nick Smith, says he's been told the cost of that advice, and its implementation, could be $2.3m.

DoC Director-General Al Morrison disputes this and says the total cost will be significantly less than what Mr Smith estimates.

Mr Morrison says advancing the role of conservation and engaging with the New Zealand public is a key part of the Department's responsibilities under the Conservation Act.
