State Highway 1 north of Wellington has reopened after being blocked for nearly four hours by a fatal crash early on Sunday morning.
A car and a truck collided at Pukerua Bay at about 4.30am.
Inspector Paul Jermy says the sole occupant of the car, a woman, died at the scene, while one person in the truck received minor injuries. A second person in the truck was uninjured.
The cause of the crash is not yet known, but the Police Serious Crash Unit has been called to the scene.
Temporary diversions were put in place at Grays Road, Plimmerton, for northbound travel and at Paekakariki Hill Road for southbound travel.
