An elderly protester trying to stop the demolition of state houses in the Auckland suburb of Glen Innes has been taken to hospital.

The man was part of a group on Monday trying to save the houses on Silverton Avenue which the Government plans to sell to private developers.

Another protester, Phyllis Pomare, says the man was sitting on the ground in front of a truck and collapsed when it moved.

The ambulance service confirmed they attended to an elderly man with medical issues in the Glen Innes area.
