North Canterbury healthcare site not yet determined

The Canterbury District Health Board says the location of a planned hub of heathcare services in North Canterbury is still undecided despite indications Rangiora is the Government's preferred option.

Waimakariri MP Kate Wilkinson says the current Rangiora Hospital site is the preferred, but not the pre-determined, site for the hub.

DHB general manager of planning and funding Carolyn Gullery says a consultation process is underway to see what services local people want to see provided, and a preferred location.

Ms Gullery says the location will also be driven by population forecasts for the area and the availability of transport to the site.

Ms Wilkinson says Rangiora appears a logical option as the board already owns land there, but she says a number of other possible locations are being put forward as part of the consultation process.
