12:02 pm on 16 April 2012

Police say the death of a 70-year-old man whose body was found on Devonport Beach in Auckland doesn't appear to have been suspicious.

A member of the public found the man's body about 80 metres from the ferry terminal at Devonport, shortly after 6am on Monday.

Police say a post mortem will be carried out and the death is being treated as unexplained at this stage, however the man does not appear to have died under suspicious circumstances.

Some of the beach was cordoned off on Monday as a scene examination is was carried out.

The man had identification on him and police will be informing his next of kin.
