The 20-year old accused of stabbing a 95-year-old man in the head in West Auckland can now be revealed as his next-door neighbour.

Name suppression for Jacob Komene lapsed when he appeared in the Waitakere District Court on Monday afternoon.

He was arrested last Wednesday and faces charges, including wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Mr Komene is accused of stabbing Albert Chant during an alleged home invasion on Wednesday night.

He has been remanded in custody until he re-appears in court in May.

Mr Chant remains in a stable condition in Auckland Hospital.
