School fire investigated

7:48 am on 7 May 2012

The Fire Service is investigating a fire at a school in Wellington that caused serious damage to an administration building and cut its electricity.

Four fire trucks were called to Paparangi School in Newlands just after 3am on Monday.

Senior station officer John Devereux says it appears the fire started outside the school's front door.

He says the building is still standing, but most of the interior was destroyed.

The school is asking all parents to keep their children at home although some staff will be available to supervise students if needed.
