Man 'lucky to be alive' after fall from grandstand

Updated at 8:04 pm on 8 May 2012

The ambulance service says a man who fell about 20 metres from a temporary grandstand near Waikato Stadium is lucky to be alive.

The 20-year-old was helping dismantle seating used for a motorsport event in April at the intersection of Tristram and Mill streets when he fell about 4pm on Tuesday.

The ambulance service says it appears the scaffolding collapsed beneath him.

The man is in a stable condition at Waikato Hospital.
