Women at hospital checked for whooping cough

Women at Auckland's Middlemore hospital may have been exposed to whooping cough from a midwife who has the disease.

Auckland Regional Public Health Service was told on 1 May that the midwife had been diagnosed with whooping cough.

Clinical director Dr Julia Peters says the service immediately contacted more than a 150 woman who may have been in contact with the midwife, as well as their GPs.

Dr Peters says so far there so far been no cases of anyone contracting the disease but it will take another fortnight to determine whether anyone was infected.
