A 15-year-old Christchurch boy has been charged with stabbing his father in the neck.
Detective Sergeant Earle Borrell says the man suffered a single stab wound to his neck on Monday evening.
Mr Borrell says the teenager is facing an assault charge, but more serious charges are likely once police have spoken to the victim and witnesses.
The father has been receiving treatment at Christchurch Hospital and police expect to talk to him on Wednesday.
The boy appeared in the Youth Court on Tuesday and was remanded to reappear on 22 May.
