Arrests after break-in at grieving family's home

Updated at 1:00 pm on 17 May 2012

Four teenagers have been arrested after a break-in at the home of a Waihi family which was recovering from the loss of three relatives.

Police say the break-in and damage occurred while the family was holidaying in Fiji, trying to recover from the deaths of three relatives within the past year.

Tina Lovell says she and her family arrived home to find their house trashed with clothing strewn around, writing on the walls and furniture slashed.

She says the Waihi community has been very supportive, donating food and gift vouchers.

Police say a 15-year-old boy has been charged with burglary and intentional damage and three boys aged between 11 and 13 have been referred to Youth Aid.
