Second Auckland death due to Legionnaires

Auckland Regional Public Health Service has confirmed a second death following an outbreak of Legionnaires Disease in Auckland.

There have been 16 cases of the illness In the past few months.

Legionella bacteria are prevalent in warm stagnant water which can occur in hot water tanks and in buildings with water cooling towers.

Auckland Regional Public Health Service is urging building owners to treat all cooling towers and industrial water cooling systems with a biocide to kill off any traces of the legionella bacteria.
