Students found in lower Kaimai Range

Searchers have found a group of students overdue from a camping activity.

The 10 children from Tauranga Intermediate School entered bush near Ngamuwahine Road in the lower Kaimai Range in western Bay of Plenty on Tuesday.

Police were alerted about 3.45pm after they students, aged 11 and 12, failed to return from an orientation exercise.

Search teams on the ground and in the air scoured the area until they found the group safe and well on Tuesday night.

The Ngamuwahine Outdoor Education Lodge is about 30km from central Tauranga and owned by Tauranga Intermediate.

A spokesperson from the school says all students camping at the lodge left on Tuesday night.

The spokesperson says it is not known if any investigations will be carried out.
