New donut in Springfield

A giant new donut will be unveiled in Springfield, South Canterbury, on Sunday afternoon to replace an earlier sculpture which was severely damaged by fire in 2009.

It was gifted to the town by 20th Century Fox in 2007 to help launch The Simpsons movie.

A new six-tonne concrete donut, which is fire-proof, will be unveiled at 3pm.
