Woman's body found in Mt Victoria identified

Updated at 4:02 pm on 10 July 2012

Police have identified the body of a woman found near a running track on Mt Victoria in Wellington and are notifying her family.

Parts of the central city suburb remain cordoned off after the 38-year-old's body was discovered by a group of joggers about 11am on Monday.

The officer in charge of the investigation, Detective Inspector Paul Basham, the body had not been there long.

Mr Basham says the woman's family are struggling to come to grips with her death and have asked police not to reveal her identity until all other family members have been told.

Mr Basham says the death is being treated as "unexplained" at this stage. A post-mortem is being carried out on Tuesday.

A 25-year-old man arrested in the area on Monday for obstruction had been spoken to by police, but has since been released.

About 20 officers are working on the case.
