Wanganui Hospital is adding natural therapy to its list of health services. A three-month trial begins later this month.
A number of hospitals already offer therapies focused on spirituality and strengthening of the mind, including Christian prayer and meditation.
Dr Chris Cresswell says the treatments will be complementary to conventional treatments.
Payment will by way of a small koha (donation) by the patient.
The New Zealand Medical Association says it's concerned about natural therapy services being offered in hospitals.
Deputy chair Dr Mark Peterson says treatments can be benign or dangerous, and are mostly untested.
He says there's no room for them in a modern hospital.
