Police on Auckland's North Shore are appealing urgently sightings of a woman and toddler.

The woman, Skye Mason, left a Makarau property near Helensville with 18-month-old Alyssa Baker at about 3pm on Friday.

Ms Mason, who had been staying with the toddler's family, is described as a short slim woman with long, golden-brown hair. She was last seen wearing black pants and a pale blue shirt.

The toddler, who has blonde hair and green eyes, was wearing pink stripy pants, a green T-shirt and gumboots.

Police say they are concerned about the welfare of the pair.
