Ashley Bridge closed

Updated at 9:02 pm on 2 August 2012

Waimakariri District Council closed the Ashley Bridge at Cones Road on Thursday morniong as a precaution due to rising river waters but reopened it later in the day.

Heavy rain has caused flooding in some parts of Canterbury this week.

Rural bridges in some parts of South Canterbury were damaged and low-lying areas flooded.

The council says the closure was a precaution because there is pressure on the pylons with the speed and volume of water.

There is no flood threat and the bridge was due to reopen at 4.30pm.
