No sign of man seen in Waikato River

Updated at 4:00 pm on 16 August 2012

A search has failed to find any trace of a man seen in the Waikato River, apparently in distress.

A woman jogging across Fairfield Bridge saw a person in the water about 8pm on Wednesday.

The jogger called emergency services and reported seeing young man, wearing clothes with black sleeves, who seemed to be in distress in the water.

Fire Service, St John Ambulance and police searched river banks in the area and the police boat searched the river.

Police are asking anyone who knows of someone unaccounted for to contact them if they have a family member, workmate or friend they haven't seen or haven't been able to contact.
