Canterbury tourism leader encourages Aussies to visit

Updated at 5:15 am on 23 August 2012

The leader of tourism in Canterbury has told a Sydney audience Australians should not be put off from visiting Christchurch.

The mayor, Bob Parker, and the chief executive of Christchurch and Canterbury Tourism, Tim Hunter, has briefed tourism, business leaders and media on the city's rebuild in Sydney.

Mr Hunter told them many of the city's activities have reopened and new businesses have sprung up.

He said several new hotels are due to open so there will be more places for visitors to stay.

The blueprint unveiled in late July includes a new convention centre catering for up to 2000 delegates, and a new covered stadium seating 35,000 people.
