The post-mortem examination on a man found dead in Lower Hutt late last week has confirmed he was assaulted.
Michael James Mulholland, 52, was found unconscious in a driveway in Farmer Crescent, Pomare, on Thursday night. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
The forensic examination of the scene finished on Sunday, but police will continue their investigation until Wednesday.
The street where the man died is notorious for gang activity, but Detective Inspector Darrin Thomson says the victim was not involved with gangs.
He says several witnesses have now come forward, but police want to hear from anyone who was in the Farmer Crescent area between 6pm and 11pm on Thursday.
