Bus drivers' unions want to meet with employer

Unions representing hundreds of Auckland bus drivers have called for a meeting with employer NZ Bus as they try negotiate an employment contract for drivers.

The parties have been involved in a dispute since their three-year-old agreement expired in July this year.

After four months of talks, three offers and two near-settlements, NZ Bus's latest offer of $20 an hour delivered in three stages was narrowly rejected last week by a 51% to 49% vote.

Delegates from the FIRST and Auckland Tramways unions met on Monday to consider their next step.

Spokesperson Karl Anderson says the unions want to meet with NZ Bus on Wednesday to discuss why drivers rejected the latest offer.

Mr Anderson says the unions want to come to a resolution.
