Four earthquakes have occurred off the east coast of the North Island.
They ranged between magnitude 3.4 - 4.2 between 1am - 2am on Sunday and were centred up to 50km off Tolaga Bay, north of Gisborne.
The shallowest was at a depth of 19km.
GNS Science says the swarm is similar to one three years ago and there are likely to be more small quakes in the area.
