Christchurch Girls' High School Board of Trustees says it stands behind its decision to sack the school's principal, despite mounting student support for her and a looming legal battle.
Prue Taylor was dismissed from the position at the school on Friday following more than six months of discontent within management and a critical report from the Education Review Office, which recommended the Government intervene.
Peter MacDonald, who was appointed by the board as a human resources adviser in April, says there were obvious issues with Ms Taylor's communication and management style.
He says Ms Taylor, who has been a principal at the school for 13 years, has indicated she will fight the dismissal.
He says students and parents will not be told the full details of why she was fired, in order to protect the confidentiality of other members of the school.
Mr MacDonald says there are no questions over Ms Taylor's honesty or integrity, and she is a widely-respected person.
