Far North weather sparks fire risk warning

8:51 am on 4 November 2012

Residents in the Far North are being warned to take extra care because of a very high fire risk in the region.

Warm, windy weather combined with dry vegetation has raised fears that bush fires could easily break out unless people take precautions.

Far North principal rural fire officer Myles Taylor says two people were killed and houses destroyed last November because of fires and it could happen again.

Mr Taylor says anyone who has vegetation against or near their house is vulnerable and should create a 20 metre space around it to protect themselves.
