The search for a Christchurch man missing on the South Island's West Coast has been suspended.
Rex Leslie Taylor, 50, was reported overdue on Tuesday in the Mokinui River area, south of Ross near Hokitika.
Taman police spokesperson Barbara Dunn says a thorough search had been carried out by ground search and specialist white water teams and with police dogs, while a helicopter made a final sweep of a steep area on Friday night.
"By the end of the day we had identified one final steep area that we wanted to do an aerial search of, and after that was completed the search teams were extracted from the area."
Ms Dunn says the team would need new information before resuming a search.
