A series of quakes has occurred off the East Coast of the North Island. The biggest was magnitude 4.5.
Eight quakes in the sea off Tolaga and Tokomaru bays were recorded between 4am - 6.15am on Wednesday, at a depth of between 12km - 20km.
Geonet says some of the quakes were likely to have been felt.
The police have had no reports of damage.
