Waterfront building opponents put their case

Updated at 11:26 pm on 15 November 2012

Opponents of plans to build more high-rise buildings near the Wellington waterfront are making their case at a hearing on Thursday morning.

A Wellington City Council committee is considering a plan to develop the north Kumutoto precinct which includes the erection of several buildings between Queens Wharf and Wellington's Railway Station

Waterfront Watch says Wellington people do not want large buildings there and the waterfront should be treated as a reserve.

Spokesperson Pauline Swann says the buildings would remove view shafts of the harbour from the central business district and the council should consider creating more open spaces in the area.
