Car driven through front of bank

2:19 pm on 2 December 2012

A police pursuit on Saturday night ended with a car smashing through the front doors of a Nelson bank.

Police were trying to stop the car, which they say had turned around to avoid a checkpoint.

Police said the people in the car and pedestrians in the area were lucky to escape unhurt when the car veered across the footpath and through the main doors of the ANZ bank.

They abandoned the chase after less than a minute because of the speed the car was travelling at.

A 31-year-old man will face drink driving charges in court on Monday.
