Phones, internet cut in South Auckland
Updated at 7:39 pm on 4 December 2012
The network operator, Chorus says thousands of South Auckland residents have lost their phone and internet services after contractors damaged a fibre cable connecting the local exchange to the area.
Mobile sites in the area are also affected.
The company says customers should still be able to make landline calls to numbers within their local exchange area, including local emergency services.
It says technicians are monitoring 111 calls at the exchange and will co-ordinate with local emergency services as needed.
Chorus says staff will work through the night if necessary to reconnect services.
