Firefighters in Canterbury were kept busy on Wednesday as temperatures soared to more than 30 degrees Celsius.
Rural fire officers were still dampening down two separate blazes late at night.
One near Christchurch airport was fought by the crews of nine appliances at its height.
A Fire Service spokesperson says another fire near Rangiora is all but out.
Meanwhile, Fire Safety officers are investigating house fires on Edgeware Road and Barbadoes Street in Christchurch.
Both buildings have been gutted. It is not yet known how either blaze started.
