Power is being gradually restored to 68,000 customers in western Bay of Plenty following a fault on Transpower's national grid.
Powerco says the outage occurred at 2.15pm on Friday, affecting customers in Tauranga, Mount Maungaui and Kaimako.
Spokesperson Phil Marsh says the company has been given the go-ahead by Transpower to begin restoring power to affected areas.
