9:58 pm on 20 December 2012

Three small girls missing for more than 8 hours on Thursday in Hamilton have been found after a massive search involving police, land search and rescue, community patrols and extended family.

Serenity Ormsby, 8, her sister Sapphire, 6 and their cousin Maia Ormsby, 6 left their home on Mooney Street, Nawton to walk to their aunt and uncle's house down the road, but never arrived.

Senior sergeant Pete Simpson says police were notified at 5.20pm and made an extensive search of northwest Hamilton without finding them.

Reinforcements were then called in to try to locate the children.

A police spokesman says they were found safe and well just after 9.20pm.
