Updated at 8:18 pm on 24 January 2013

The first of the funerals for three New Zealanders killed in a crash in Kenya was held in Tauranga on Thursday.

Caitlin Dickson, a former pupil of Bethlehem College, was killed along with Brian and Grace Johnston and their Kenyan driver Christopher Mmata on 15 January after their minivan rolled into a ditch.

The group of 19 were travelling from the port city of Kisumu to the small village of Mahanga and were in Africa as part of the Tauranga-based college's missionary programme.

Ms Dickson's funeral took place on Thursday afternoon.

The funeral of Brian and Grace Johnston will be held on Saturday morning.

Some of the injured group remain in hospital in Nairobi.
