Nelson police have launched an investigation after a woman was violently attacked on Thursday night.
The victim was walking along the Maitai River Walkway about 10pm when she was grabbed and punched several times.
She managed to escape but suffered multiple bruises and scrapes.
Her attacker is described as Pakeha, short at about 1.7m tall, and believed to be in his twenties.
This attack comes just days after a woman was raped in nearby Bridge Street last Sunday morning.
