An Auckland man has been fined $25,000 for undertaking illegal earthworks on Waiheke Island.
Brian Saward removed 8610 square metres of native bush, including gecko habitats, on the island in 2011.
The Auckland Council says people should find out from it whether they need consent before undertaking earthworks.
