Salvation Army moves to Mt Wellington

8:32 pm on 15 February 2013

A new social services centre will be established at the former Destiny Church hub in Auckland.

Destiny Church sold the Mt Wellington property to the Salvation Army.

Divisional commander Stephen Jarvis says the Mt Wellington facility will be used for social work, employment and budgeting support, a foodbank and church services.

He says the Salvation Army sold its central city building partly because it didn't have room for all those services.

Mr Jarvis says he expects work to begin in the middle of the year, and hopes the centre will open towards the end of the year.

Destiny Church is setting up a new base in South Auckland.
