A helicopter has been winched from Lake Rotorua after making an emergency landing in the water.

Police say a commercial pilot taking a father and his two children on a scenic flight was forced to land in the lake when she noticed a mechanical problem shortly after take-off.

No one was hurt.

Rotorua Fire Service senior station officer, Colin Rolfe, went to the scene and says the helicopter appeared to be undamaged.

He says it landed in the lake about 60 metres off shore and the water was just up to the bottom of the cab of the helicopter.
