A man who once prosecuted an MP will begin a sentence next week on another matter.
Graeme McCready, 68, was sentenced in the Wellington High Court on Friday, having pleaded guilty on Monday to one charge of blackmail.
He will be confined to his home for 12 hours every night from 7pm to 7am for the next six months.
In July 2010, McCready served a Wellington company owner with a document demanding his resignation.
He also made accusations about the man's personal circumstances, sought to gain control of his company shares and released information about him to the media.
Justice Collins said on Friday that McCready was motivated by a misguided belief that he was acting in the interests of a small number of shareholders, but his behaviour left his victim feeling extremely stressed.
McCready first came to public notice in 2009 when he prosecuted Trevor Mallard after the Labour MP was involved in a dispute with National Party MP Tau Henare.
