Youth faces charges over Northland police pursuit

A teenage boy police say crashed a speeding car in Northland while trying to avoid them has been charged with several offences.

Dargaville police attempted to stop the 16-year old driver while travelling along Colville Road on Wednesday afternoon.

Police called off the pursuit before placing spikes on the Wairoa Bridge in an attempt to stop him.

The say the teenager travelled over the bridge at speed before noticing the spikes and swerved and lost control trying to avoid them.

The car came to rest on its roof in a drain.

A passenger received minor injuries and the driver was uninjured.

The 16-year old driver faces several charges, including dangerous driving and failing to stop, in the Whangarei Youth Court.
