The Ministry of Primary Industries has raided two poultry farms in South Auckland, believed to be involved in illegally killing and processing poultry and eggs.
The premises in Flat Bush were raided on Tuesday and 149 chickens and 700 eggs were seized, along with commercial incubators, processing equipment and a large amount of cash.
The ministry says it has been monitoring the area for several months and is speaking with several individuals.
It says it will also be investigating restaurants and outlets believed to be involved in the purchase or sale of illegal poultry.
Individuals could face up to two years in jail and a $100,000 fine if convicted under the Animal Products Act.
