Torrential Auckland rain floods houses, roads

Emergency services in Auckland have had several weather-related callouts on Saturday as torrential rain hit the city.

The Fire Service says water had to be pumped out of two flooded houses in the eastern suburbs, as well as garages in Epsom, Orakei and Greenlane.

The police have responded to a lot of minor crashes caused by wet roads and are urging drivers to be extremely careful.

Earlier on Saturday, two buses and a car crashed in Birkenhead Avenue on the North Shore. St John Ambulance says two people with minor injuries were treated at the scene.

MetService is forecasting rain for most of the country this weekend, with squally thunderstorms and severe gales expected for the upper North Island.
