A Christchurch City Councillor has revealed he's received death threats from across the country for his stance on the future of the city's earthquake damaged cathedral.
Aaron Keown was speaking at the opening of the city's new Speakers' Corner on Saturday afternoon.
He says he's received abuse from people as far away as Tauranga, who target him through social media or by calling his family at home.
Mr Keown says many other local politicians have also been targeted.
But he says he was singled out because he supported the view that the cathedral shouldn't be demolished until all other options for its future had been explored.
