Trade-in trial verdict

A trial to dispose of old vehicles in Auckland, in return for two months of free public transport, has been deemed a success.

The Government says the six week trial in May and June last year saw more than 250 cars traded-in for train and bus passes.

Associate Transport Minister Judith Tizard says it was one way to see how poorly maintained and less fuel efficent vehicles could be removed from the road.
