Students can use website to report racial abuse

A new initiative to stop racial harrassment has been launched in Christchurch.

Christchurch City Council and other organisations have been working on a website that invites international students to report racial abuse.

The website, report-it.org.nz, comes after a survey found about half of all international students in the city had been the victim of harrassment based on their ethnicity.

It aims to gather information so the police can use it to find ways of reducing racial abuse.

The race relations commissioner, Joris de Bres, says other regions should take note of how Christchurch is tackling the race issue.
