Social worker who had sex with teen won't be charged

Police in Nelson say no action will be taken against a former female Child Youth and Family social worker who had a sexual relationship with a boy in CYF custody.

Detective Senior Sergeant Wayne McCoy says the woman - who was 36 at the time - can't be prosecuted because the boy, 16, was old enough to give consent.

The Association of Social Workers says intimate relationships between members and clients are a breach of ethics and the woman has been suspended pending a hearing.
