Dunedin Hospital reopens

6:05 am on 25 August 2008

Dunedin Hospital will re-open with full services on Monday, for the first time since it was hit by an outbreak of Norovirus.

The outbreak forced the hospital to go into lock down for a week.

About 2000 outpatient appointments were cancelled after wards began closing on 16 August. Wakari Hospital was also affected. A total of 160 staff and patients were ill.

The Otago District Health Board says visiting restrictions will be lifted, but visiting hours from 2pm - to 8pm will be more strictly enforced.

Operations manager Megan Boivin says patients will continue to be screened before they are able to enter the hospital, to ensure the bug doesn't spread further.

The DHB will also start looking at rescheduling appointments that have been postponed over the past week, because of the Norovirus outbreak.
