150 without power in South Canterbury

7:46 pm on 3 July 2013

Some 150 properties in South Canterbury will be without power overnight after high winds brought down trees.

One thousand houses were without power after a 33,000 voltage line between Albury and the township of Fairlie stopped working on Wednesday morning.

Alpine Energy chief executive Andrew Tombs said it has been fixed, but lines to some houses in the outskirts of Canterbury have not.

Mr Tombs said conditions are too dangerous in the dark and the 100-man crew would start repair work again on Thursday.

Another lines company, Orion, said power was cut to about 550 properties, but should have been restored to all by Wednesday night.
